Chingay 2019 - Dreams Funtastia (Bicentennial Edition)
Chingay 2019 Highlights
First-of-its-kind 270m painting to commemorate Singapore Bicentennial
This 270m by 7m long painting that depicts the “Past, Present and Future” of Singapore will open the parade as a meaningful gift from the community to Singapore for this milestone year.
Co-created by three Singaporean multi-disciplinary artists of different races, the painting illustrates the history of Singapore that dates back to 200 years and before, as a humble fishing village; to the present-day modern, progressive multi-ethnic country; to the limitless imagination of our dreams and aspirations for the future. Singaporeans and residents from all walks of life have also left their fingerprints on this painting to symbolise their commitment and determination to work together towards the next 200 years.
The completed painting is digitised and enlarged into a 270-metre long artwork that will be brought to life at the parade by 240 performers interspersed within the painting. The three artists, together with six budding ones, will put the finishing touches to the painting ‘live’ during the parade.
Dream Catchers – Following your Passion
Besides the Chingay signature showcases from our multi-ethnic communities that promises to enthral audience, Chingay 2019 will feature exciting performances from a diverse representation of cultural and interest groups as we come together to celebrate our pursuit of our dreams and passion in life.
Traditional Chinese skilled acts will be challenging themselves with more electrifying performances such as acrobatic stunts by stilt walkers and freestyle lions on high poles, and a 49m LED giant flying balloon dragon that is making its debut at the parade. They will be joined by other modern skilled interest groups such as cheerleaders, unicyclists, rhythmic gymnasts and LED Kites enthusiasts, all gearing up to show off their tricks and stunts to Chingay audiences.
What’s more, get ready to be blown away as riders on different vehicles - Go-Karts, Harley Davidson bikes, Vintage cars and Vespa sidecars wow the audience with speed and style on a much bigger stage this year.
Limitless imagination of Future Singapore
Hundreds of young people are coming together to present a futuristic and dynamic FINALE that celebrates Singapore as a nation and home with our unique Singaporean identity and distinctive DNA. They will be joined by thousands of performers from the previous performing items as we come together to pledge our support and commitment towards building Singapore for the next 200 years. And who can forget the stunning display of pyrotechnics and fireworks to end off the night on a high?
