Medley Toddlers (Suzuki)

Medley Music School has created its own music lesson programme (Medley Toddlers) using the Suzuki Method specially catered to very young children from 6 months to 2 years and 6 months old. A range of musical and social concepts are achieved in this programme using the Suzuki method. Songs, spoken speech patterns and movement are combined with the playing of a variety of percussion instruments. Each activity is presented so that toddlers at various developmental stages can benefit. However, most children with increased pace of learning and development would have moved up to the Medley Preschool level at 2 years and 6 months of age. This program is also a good foundational training for future instrumental learning and lessons using the Suzuki Method. One parent or consistent caregiver is required to be present for each class to accompany the child or participate along with the child. I personally enjoy this 1 hour parent accompanied music class with my toddler every week as the activities are very varied. We are able to have hands on experience with different musical instruments like the violin, cello, piano, drum and other percussions like triangles, bells, etc They even have colorful scarves and rainbow streamers for the kids to twirl and dance with. The hello song and activity allows the kids to train on their social skills as they are supposed to go around and shake hands with the other kids in class. Through this activity, as parents we can see which kids are the more sociable ones or more reserved type. Also, there are activities where the teacher will encourage parents involvement / assistance and some others where we are expected to let our child do it by herself. I also like it that there will be story telling time towards the later part of the lesson where the teacher will sing out the stories to us.
